CNN is facing the greatest crisis in network history.
Everything they tried to stem the bleeding failed.
And CNN just got slapped with a harsh truth that could spell their certain doom.
Shortly after Donald Trump’s inauguration, CNN made a business decision.
Network President Jeff Zucker gambled that he could save the network from ratings death by going all-in on trying to destroy Donald Trump.
That strategy failed in spectacular fashion when Attorney General William Barr released his summary of the Mueller report which revealed no collusion with Russia and that Mueller declined to make a decision on obstruction of justice.
CNN saw their ratings plummet as viewers abandoned them when they realized CNN spent over two years feeding them spoonfuls of lies and fake news about the Trump campaign colluding with Russia.
It was an existential threat to CNN’s very existence.
So CNN scrambled for a new plan to win back viewers.
They settled on rebranding CNN as the home team network for the 2020 Democrat Presidential contenders.
Democrat Presidential candidates littered CNN’s primetime programming with town halls.
On one night, CNN hosted five different candidate town hall specials.
The results are in and the news is not good for CNN.
The week of April 8 to April 12 –which featured three town hall events with Democrat Presidential Candidates Joaquin Castro, Kirsten Gillibrand and Jay Inslee – saw CNN record their lowest overall weekly ratings.
They tried to recapture the magic of 2016 where Donald Trump’s unlikely Presidential campaign captivated the nation and boosted all cable channels to record viewership.
But that was before CNN officially took a match to their reputation.
Back then, CNN could at least pretend to be objective.
Not anymore.
CNN President Jeff Zucker harbors political ambitions run for office as a Democrat.
And many liberals blame CNN – airing shots of an empty Trump podium before he spoke and showing his rallies uninterrupted without liberal “journalists” appearing on air to “fact check” him – for Trump’s upset victory.
Zucker knew he couldn’t run for office known as a man whose name evokes shame and disgust when liberals speak it so he tried to rehabilitate his image through CNN’s coverage.
As the bad ratings continue to pour in, Zucker’s bet backfired big time.
MSNBC – which casts itself as the home team network for liberals – also saw their ratings nosedive when Attorney General Barr finally debunked the Russian collusion conspiracy theory.
Liberals don’t know which network to trust after so many supposedly “mainstream” cable channels and newspapers knowingly peddled them junk for years.
And it’s clear the sprawling field of Democrat Presidential candidates will not be enough to save CNN.
Viewers judged these candidates as cranks, has- beens, never-weres and mediocrities.
There is no Donald Trump or even Barack Obama in this field.
It’s doubtful CNN has a plan “C.”
Ratings will continue to plummet and the merger with AT&T could lead to massive shake ups in the networks leadership and programming style.
We will keep you up to date on any new developments in this ongoing story.
