Radical leftists have completely destroyed American universities.
They’ve become nothing more than indoctrination mills for progressivism.
And one university just instituted the most racist policy imaginable.
Universities have been completely captured by the hard left.
They’ve likely reached the point where they’re no longer salvageable.
Colleges have always leaned to the left, but the liberal-conservative balance has never been this out of whack.
Today, students are far more likely to encounter a professor who is an avowed Marxist than one who is a conservative.
According to a survey at Harvard University, 80% of the faculty are liberal to very liberal (i.e. communist), 19% are moderate, and only 1% are conservative.
Similar breakdowns will be found at other universities around the country.
So it shouldn’t come as a surprise that Rutgers University is enacting an insanely racist policy to cater to far-left activists.
Rebecca Walkowitz, chair of the Graduate Writing Program in the English Department, said the department would be reorienting the department toward “social justice” and “critical grammar,” and it’s just as bad as it sounds.
Walkowitz wrote in an email:
“[The] ‘critical grammar’ approach challenges the standard academic form of the English language in favor of a more inclusive writing experience. The curriculum puts an emphasis on the variability of the English language instead of accuracy.”
In other words, she’s lowering the standard of the writing program to be more “inclusive,” which is exactly what George W. Bush dubbed “the soft bigotry of low expectations.”
Walkowitz’s letter continued:
“This approach challenges the familiar dogma that writing instruction should limit emphasis on grammar/sentence-level issues so as to not put students from multilingual, non-standard ‘academic’ English backgrounds at a disadvantage. Instead, it encourages students to develop a critical awareness of the variety of choices available to them [with] regard to micro-level issues in order to empower them and equip them to push against biases based on ‘written’ accents.”
So instead of helping students with deficient writing skills improve, Rutgers is instead opting to lower the bar and call it “progress.”
This is doing the students no favors whatsoever, and will leave them unprepared for life outside the Marxist university ecosystem.
However, the radical left is attempting to mainstream these ideas, and they’re having an alarming amount of success.
This type of nonsense that happens on college campuses escapes to the rest of the country over time.
Indoctrinated graduates become professors, grade school teachers, administrators, human resource managers, lawyers, journalists, entertainers, and politicians.
Years of communist propaganda is the only way someone like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez could become a member of Congress with 8 million Twitter followers.
Leonydus Johnson, a black libertarian activist, summed up the decision by Rutgers best in an interview with the Washington Free Beacon:
“The idea that expecting a student to write in grammatically correct sentences is indicative of racial bias is asinine…It’s like these people believe that being nonwhite is an inherent handicap or learning disability…That’s racism. It has become very clear to me that those who claim to be ‘antiracist’ are often the most racist people in this country.”
This is exactly right.
Rutgers isn’t doing these students any favors.
They’re just creating more activists with few, if any, marketable skills.
