Rachel Maddow spent two years as the queen of cable news.
Nonstop coverage of the Robert Mueller investigation rocketed her to one of the biggest stars in all of television.
But Maddow realized it was all over when this harsh reality stared her right in the face.
When the Russian collusion story kicked into overdrive back in 2017, MSNBC made a business decision.
Their ratings were in the tank and the network desperately needed a lifeline.
They found one with Robert Mueller.
MSNBC refashioned their network to compete with fake news CNN for to serve as the number one destination for the “resistance” to Donald Trump.
That meant swallowing the Russian collusion hoax whole cloth.
Nowhere was that more apparent than on Rachel Maddow’s nightly program.
Maddow dazzled her viewers with “down-the-rabbit-hole” monologues dissecting every minute detail of the Russia probe and fiendishly connecting dots that had no association with one another.
It was all a lie.
But it was a profitable lie – Maddow earns a reported ten million dollars a year to serve as the anchor.
Maddow – on some occasions – topped Fox News’s Sean Hannity – to ascend to the spot as most-watched host on cable news.
But the good times came to an end when Robert Mueller issued his report.
The special counsel – despite an unlimited budget and access to an all-star team of Democrat prosecutors – came up empty-handed.
Mueller reported that he found no evidence of Russian collusion.
Maddow’s audience was in shock.
They trusted that she was playing it straight and dishing out the real truth.
It turned out she was no more honest than a carnival huckster hawking “brain pills” or a “love potion.”
Viewers fled her station in droves when Mueller revealed the horse manure Maddow peddled to them.
Maddow’s show on the night after the Mueller report dropped shed 500,000 viewers from the previous Monday’s episode.
That is unheard of.
But it should not be surprising.
People don’t like to be made a fool of.
And that is what Maddow did by relentlessly pushing conspiracy theories and hoaxes.
Intercept founder – as well as far-left journalist – Glenn Greenwald warned this would happen.
Greenwald stated MSNBC banned him from appearing on their air three years ago because Greenwald expressed doubt about the Trump-Russia collusion story.
Greenwald described MSNBC as “a sewer of propaganda and fear-mongering masquerading as liberal rationality that has exploited ordinary people’s fears for profits like a Ponzi scheme and has dangerously escalated tensions between the world’s most dangerous nuclear-armed powers. Otherwise, they’re awesome.”
Now that “Russiagate” completely collapsed and was revealed as a hoax perpetrated by Hillary Clinton’s campaign and the Obama Deep State, MSNBC is lost at sea.
They are counting on the 2020 Democrat Presidential primary to save their ratings.
But after they squandered the trust of the audience, liberal viewers have alternatives like fake news CNN to watch for coverage of the race.
And that could spell the end for MSNBC.
