Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez thought she was untouchable in the Democrat Party.
But those days are gone.
And Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez got called out by the last person she ever suspected.
As Black Eye Politics reports:
Florida Congresswoman Stephanie Murphy is one of the 30 Democrats in the House of Representatives not running for re-election.
Democrat retirements hit a 30-year high because members understand that due to Joe Biden’s failures on inflation, the border, crime, Afghanistan, and Russia the party is facing a massive wipeout in November.
One reason Joe Biden’s presidency imploded is because Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and her fellow “Squad” members Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib began asserting control over the party’s policy direction.
Congresswoman Murphy told POLITICO that when she first won election in 2016, Democrat leadership allowed members to vote against the party on some issues to provide a fig leaf of political cover to claim the label of moderate.
But Murphy explained that once Democrats won the majority on the backs of wins by Ocasio-Cortez and other strident leftists, Pelosi totally caved and began enforcing the socialists’ political dogma.
“My first term … there was a lot more tolerance for, ‘Do what you need to do to hold your seat, and come back because we’re trying to build towards [a] majority,’” Murphy told POLITICO. “With us being in the majority, that tolerance eroded a bit. It’s unfortunate, because I think in order for us as Democrats to hold the majority, you have to be able to win in seats like mine and in redder seats. That means you have to cut your members a little bit of leeway to vote their district. This march towards party unity is going to be detrimental to our ability to lead.”
Murphy said leadership’s efforts to appease Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and the left reached a low during negotiations over Joe Biden’s multi-trillion-dollar socialist spending bill.
Congresswoman Murphy recounted how Pelosi and the rest of leadership folded to the left’s demands for a $3.5 trillion spending bill that proved to be politically unpopular and dead on arrival in the Senate.
“I can’t tell you the number of times I said, ‘You can’t keep promising rainbows and unicorns when your political reality is such narrow margins in the House and a dead-even Senate,’” Murphy added. “They took the difference between rainbows and unicorns and political reality — which is anger and disappointment — and turned that anger and disappointment against their own members.”
Because Joe Biden, Chuck Schumer, and Pelosi bent over backwards to cater to the whims of socialists like Ocasio-Cortez, inflation is out of control, crime runs rampant on the streets of major cities and the border is wide open.
Those failures led to sagging poll numbers and the prospect of a Democrat wipeout this fall.
