Viewers could not believe what they were watching.
Fox News Channel is supposed to oppose liberal media narratives.
And Fox News just stabbed viewers in the back with one big betrayal.
As Great American Daily reports:
Joe Biden borrowed a familiar tactic from the Obama administration.
And that is when the news cycle is bad – and it is now as the national average price for a gallon of gasoline is approaching five dollars a gallon – bring in a celebrity to dazzle the press corps and change the narrative.
That’s why the Biden administration called in a favor from Uvalde, Texas native and Hollywood A-lister Matthew McConaughey to deliver a performance about the anguish he felt over Congress not passing new gun control in the wake of horrible tragedy in his hometown.
McConaughey delivered well-worn talking points about gun violence and pushed Joe Biden’s anti-gun agenda that would disarm law-abiding American citizens.
A Hollywood celebrity parachuting into Washington, D.C. to support the trendy left-wing cause du jour is not surprising.
But what was surprising was the fact that Fox News anchors abandoned all journalistic objectivity and skepticism to lavish praise on McConaughey’s pro-gun control message.
“He went into the ways he believes we can improve the situation in this country,” Fox News anchor Sandra Smith gushed adding that McConaughey showed up in the White House press briefing room “to raise the age for buying an assault rifle to 21 years old unless you are in the military, all gun purchases should require a background check and red flag laws should be the law of the land.”
Smith even claimed taking away Americans’ guns was somehow family values.
“Someone from Hollywood calling to restore our family values in the wake of that mass shooting at the elementary school in Texas,” Smith continued.
Smith’s co-anchor John Roberts echoed Smith’s praise.
“Real impassioned plea there, and the best presentation we have seen from that podium in an awfully long time, he is part of Hollywood, but a Texas native, Uvalde native,” Roberts added.
Fox News “Special Report” host Bret Baier said raising the age to purchase a rifle to 21 – even a federal court already ruled this unconstitutional – was reasonable, as was allowing the government to delay Americans’ ability to exercise their Second Amendment rights, and red flag confiscation laws were a “middle ground.”
“You know, his specifics are, it seems like, a compromised position and I think there are a lot of Americans who get, can get around raising the age to 21 for AR-15. I think there are a lot of Americans who can get around a four-day waiting period to make sure that, you know, somebody just does not get it in the passion of the moment and does something. I think red flag laws raise other red flags that we have seen in other places, maybe that gets worked out. But there are compromised positions here and I think Capitol Hill is working on this,” Baier declared.
Viewers tune in to Fox News because the hosts and guests usually reject the pro-Democrat Party framing of the news.
But in this case Fox News happily jumped on the gun-grabber bandwagon.
