Hillary Clinton is known for settling scores.
Clinton’s waited years to get back at someone.
Now Hillary Clinton just got revenge on this major rival in the most despicable way.
As Black Eye Politics reports:
NBC Capitol Hill correspondent Ali Vitali’s new book “Electable: Why America Hasn’t Put a Woman in the White House … Yet” described how Hillary Clinton tried to get revenge on her old rival Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders.
In 2016, Clinton and her allies blamed Sanders fighting Clinton all the way to the convention for Donald Trump’s victory that November.
In the book Vitali described an infamous scene where CNN moderator Abby Phillip confronted Bernie Sanders during a primary debate about Sanders supposedly telling Elizabeth “Pocahontas” Warren that he did not believe a woman could win the election.
“CNN reported yesterday, and Senator Sanders, Senator Warren confirmed in a statement, that in 2018, you told her that you did not believe that a woman could win the election.” She then asked, “Why did you say that?” Vitali wrote.
Sanders disputed the allegation.
“Well, as a matter of fact, I didn’t say it. And I don’t want to waste a whole lot of time on this, because this is what Donald Trump and maybe some of the media want. Anybody who knows me knows that it’s incomprehensible that I would think that a woman couldn’t be president of the United States,” Sanders stated.
After the debate a hot mic caught Warren accusing Sanders of calling her a liar.
“I think you called me a liar on national TV,” Warren said.
Sanders denied the allegation.
But Vitali wrote that the scene incensed Clinton who in 2016 believed any and all criticism of her candidacy – be it from Donald Trump or Bernie Sanders – was sexist.
“Hillary Clinton was watching this debate moment, too. ‘I believed her, because I know Sanders, and I know the kind of things that he says about women and to women,’ she told me, her distaste for her 2016 opponent still palpable,” Vitali wrote.
“I wish she had done it on mic,” Clinton told Vitali. “I wish that she had pushed back in front of everybody. I think it weakened her response that it was after the cameras were supposedly off and, you know, they were just standing there.”
Clinton added that she really wanted Warren to lay into Sanders right then and there.
“I think it’s important that you call it out when it happens, and that was my only regret for her,” Clinton added.
“I wish she had just turned on him and said, ‘You know, it’s one thing to mislead people about your healthcare plan. It’s another thing to tell someone to her face that a conversation which you know happened didn’t happen.’ I mean, that would have been, I think, a really important moment for her,” Clinton concluded.
Clinton and Bernie Sanders may very well be primary rivals again in 2024.
In 2016 and 2020 woke Democrats complained about “Bernie Bros” on Twitter inventing a narrative that Sanders’ supporters were sexist social media trolls.
Clinton wants to re-establish that narrative ahead of 2024 to damage a rival that she clearly hates.
