Oliver Anthony’s “Rich Men North of Richmond” is the smash hit of the summer.
The working-class anthem beat out music superstars like Taylor Swift to become the number-one song in all of America.
And now Oliver Anthony took Fox News to the woodshed for this shocking reason.
“Rich Men North of Richmond” exploded on the music scene with lyrics about out-of-touch ruling elites grinding down the working class through trade policies that shipped jobs overseas, foreign wars that middle-class children fought and died in, and punishing taxes that rewarded welfare queens while crushing the ability of hard-working, every-day Americans to enjoy the fruits of their labor.
Fox News played a clip of the song before moderator Martha MacCallum asked the candidates how they would address the punishing inflation that Joe Biden’s socialist spending caused that crippled the ability of the Americans Anthony sang about to live a prosperous life.
Anthony was not happy that Fox News used his song as the jumping-off point for the first question in the GOP presidential debate.
Anthony posted a video clip to social media explaining that he viewed establishment Republicans as just as big a part of the problem as he did Joe Biden and the Democrats.
“I wrote that song about those people,” Anthony stated.
“The one thing has bothered me is seeing people wrap politics up in this,” Anthony added. “It’s aggravating to see certain musicians and politicians act like we’re buddies, like we’re fighting the same struggle here.”
“For them to sit there and have to listen to that, that cracks me up,” Anthony continued.
Anthony explained that he sang about some of the people on that stage as establishment Republicans often join Democrats in supporting a globalist agenda like funding the war in Ukraine, or supporting amnesty that runs counter to the interests of working-class Americans.
“That song has nothing to do with Joe Biden. It’s a lot bigger than Joe Biden,” Anthony stated. “That song is written about the people on that stage. And a lot more too, not just them, but definitely them.”
Anthony ripped the left for initially trying to cancel him and said it was no different than establishment organizations like Fox News trying to glom onto his song’s message.
“It’s hard to get a message out about your political ideology or your belief about the world in three minutes and some change, but I do hate seeing that song weaponized,” Anthony exclaimed. “I see the right trying to characterize me as one of their own and I see the left trying to discredit me, I guess in retaliation. That s—’s got to stop.”
“They’ve done everything they can the last two weeks to make me look like a fool, to spin my words, to try and stick me in a political bucket. And they can keep trying, but I’m just going to keep on writing,” Anthony concluded.
During the Tea Party movement and the rise of MAGA establishment Republicans, Fox News tried to pull the same trick.
Fox News presented RINOs like Lindsey Graham, Mitch McConnell, Paul Ryan and John Boehner as the allies of the populist grassroots conservatives that powered both the Tea Party and MAGA.
Establishment Republicans fully support the agenda Anthony railed against in “Rich Men North of Richmond.”
And Fox News is trying to mainstream the song to direct the grassroots anger away from establishment Republicans – like Mitch McConnell – who sell them out by voting for the globalist agenda.
Oliver Anthony called them out.
