Barack Obama didn’t take the hint from the 2024 election that the American people are done with him.
Obama was spoiling for a fight.
And Barack Obama threw down the gauntlet with this challenge to Democrats.
As American Media WatchDog reports:
Obama Wants His Healthcare Law to Be Expanded
When Barack Obama signed his signature healthcare law, he was forced to compromise on a handful of things, one of which was abortion coverage.
The Bart Stupak amendment, which ostensibly banned abortion from being covered with public funds, was famously one of the key compromises that paved the way for Obamacare to go into effect.
But Obama is now urging lawmakers to expand Obamacare.
And while he didn’t specifically mention the Stupak amendment, it is worth asking the question of whether that might include expanded abortion coverage.
This would be a catastrophe for unborn babies across America who are already at risk of abortion.
If that entails a repeal of the Stupak Amendment and abortions being covered with public funds, it would turn America’s abortion status quo upside-down.
Will Obamacare Expansion Include Federal Funds for Abortion?
According to Fox News, “Former President Barack Obama said that his signature legislation, the Affordable Care Act, should be expanded in future years, arguing that the ACA should be seen as a ‘first step’ to better healthcare.”
“‘We’re not finished yet,’ Obama said in a video promoting the opening of the Obama Presidential Center in Chicago next year. ‘I’ve always said that the ACA is like a starter house, it was a big step forward, but still just a first step. Now it’s up to all of us to keep building on and improving the ACA.’”
As Fox News goes on to note, Donald Trump has shown no indication that he wants to expand Obamacare during his second term.
The article continues, “Despite the Obama plea, an expansion of the ACA, which was often dubbed ‘ObamaCare,’ seems unlikely under the leadership of President Donald Trump.”
“Trump, who replaced Obama in the White House after winning the 2016 election, made a push to repeal the legislation in 2017, an effort that ultimately fell short in the Senate.”
It may be unlikely in the near term that Obama gets his wish, but it is something that could happen in the future if Democrats take over once again.
If it does come to that, lawmakers will need to pay close attention to whether expanding Obamacare would include coverage for abortions and a repeal of Stupak.
