In this polarized era, it’s nearly impossible to get nearly 90 percent of the American people to agree on anything.
Yet nearly 90 percent agreed Biden was too old to be president, according to a February 2024 ABC/Ipsos poll.
ABC reported that “86% of Americans think Biden, 81, is too old to serve another term as president. That figure includes 59% of Americans who think both he and former President Donald Trump, the Republican front-runner, are too old and 27% who think only Biden is too old.”
Yet the media went along with Karine Jean-Pierre’s marching orders that videos of Biden looking like he was acting all senile were “cheap fakes.”
But after the election and Donald Trump won, the press could start telling the truth.
A December 2024 Wall Street Journal article revealed that as far back as Biden’s first months in office his handlers were canceling national security meetings because Biden was too mentally incompetent to sit through them.
“He has good days and bad days, and today was a bad day so we’re going to address this tomorrow,” the Journal reported a Biden aide recalled a national security official telling them.
British journalist Piers Morgan asked former NBC News host Chuck Todd about why the media looked the other way on Biden’s senility.
Todd claimed the media tried to dance around the subject, but that he admitted the press pulled their punches when it came to talking about Biden’s senility.
“Look, we were subtle. ‘He’s using the back staircase, he’s not using the front staircase. Hey, he’s not doing any interviews.’ So there was this reluctance to draw the conclusion to say, ‘Is he not doing this?’ And that I agree with. That was held back a lot [by the media]. But I understand the argument about the collective on that front,” Todd began.
Todd told Morgan the real reason reporters didn’t tell Americans the truth about Biden’s diminished mental capacity was simple.
Reporters were afraid that if they said the emperor had no clothes – or no wits about him in this case – it would help Donald Trump win the election.
“The only thing I can chalk it up to is this, whatever you want to call it, this fear that some members of the media had sometimes that they would be perceived as helping Trump if they somehow diminished Biden, right? That it was some sort of zero-sum game. And I think this has been the fundamental mistake that many members of the traditional press have done,” Todd added.
