Donald Trump is now inaugurated as America’s 47th President.
Pop culture icons and institutions are reacting to Trump in a very different manner than eight years ago.
And a liberal comedian had one surprising message for Donald Trump.
After nearly a decade of scorched-earth war, the resistance is largely laying down their swords, accepting defeat and retreating to fight Donald Trump at a later date.
“Saturday Night Live” is like church for liberals.
Blue America gathers once a week for an hour to have the left’s high priests of comedy convey to them the message of the day.
Comedian Dave Chappelle is a legend.
Chappelle’s commentary on race and American society nearly got him canceled because he mocked the idea that a biological man can become a woman.
But Chappelle is also an ardent Democrat.
Chappelle’s brand of comedy and political affiliation made him producer Lorne Michaels’ obvious top choice to host the episode of “Saturday Night Live” that aired before Donald Trump’s inauguration.
Right off the bat the audience could tell that this episode of “Saturday Night Live” was going to be different.
The show’s cold open featured the cast mocking the MSNBC hosts’ mental breakdown over Trump’s victory.
NEW: Saturday Night Live roasts MSNBC, suggests Rachel Maddow looks like a man and makes fun of Stephanie Ruhle for flirting with everyone.
The show specifically made fun of the hosts for being obsessed with Trump.

Dave Chappelle then delivered a 17-minute opening monologue that made fun of Sean “P-Diddy” Combs’ arrest on sex trafficking charges, Luigi Mangione – the accused killer of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson – the Los Angeles wildfires, poor people, homosexuals in West Hollywood, and conspiracy theories.
Chappelle said Michaels wanted him to host the first show after the election, but he pushed him off because he was tired of Trump jokes, but finally agreed to do it to put his old material to rest.
At the end of the monologue, Chappelle adopted a serious tone and wished Trump success as president and let him know that the whole world was counting on him to do well as president.
“So Donald Trump, I know you watch the show, man, remember, whether people voted for you or not, they’re all counting on you. Whether they like you or not, they’re all counting on you. The whole world is counting on you,” Chappelle stated.
Chappelle also urged Trump and his opponents to “do better” and called for an end to division.
“And I mean this when I say this, good luck, please, do better next time. Please all of us, do better next time. Do not forget your humanity, and please have empathy for displaced people, whether they’re in the Palisades or Palestine,” Chappelle added.
This type of message would have been unthinkable eight years ago.
“Saturday Night Live” never would have tapped a comedian like Chappelle to host the show prior to Trump’s inauguration.
Michaels would have selected a host whose persona and brand signified defiance of Donald Trump.
Trump winning the popular vote changed all of that.
