Disney is the poster child for woke corporations jumping into the culture alongside the left.
This is not turning out to be a good move.
And Disney just made this unthinkable confession about its woke agenda.
Bud Light and Target lost billions of dollars after deciding their corporate mission was to promote transgenderism and not provide a product customers wanted to purchase.
Likewise, Disney’s movie and television division is now in a state of disrepair because executives lost sight of the goal.
Disney’s movies lost over $1 billion this year as audiences stopped packing theaters in protest over the company serving up a film state that focused on ideological indoctrination as opposed to entertainment.
Even the previously bulletproof Marvel Cinematic Universe showed cracks in the foundation as “The Marvels” – a film about the completely unlikable Captain Marvel who is coded as a lesbian who complains when men tell her she has a nice smile and dresses like the Taliban picks out her wardrobe – recorded the lowest opening weekend box office gross in the history of the MCU and is on pace to lose hundreds of millions of dollars.
In an investor filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, Disney admitted the biggest threat to its financial success was the fact that the audience’s desires – i.e. good movies and shows that entertained them – weren’t aligned with the company’s goals – pushing gender identity, homosexuality and a radical feminist vision of life where romance and having kids are tools of the patriarchy.
“We face risks relating to misalignment with public and consumer tastes and preferences for entertainment, travel and consumer products, which impact demand for our entertainment offerings and products and the profitability of any of our businesses. Our businesses create entertainment, travel and consumer products whose success depends substantially on consumer tastes and preferences that change in often unpredictable ways. The success of our businesses depends on our ability to consistently create compelling content, which may be distributed, among other ways, through broadcast, cable, theaters, internet or mobile technology, and used in theme park attractions, hotels and other resort facilities and travel experiences and consumer products,” Disney’s filing states.
But the company warned investors that the financial picture for the entertainment division wasn’t about to turn around anytime soon because Disney wasn’t about to change course.
The filing explained the value of promoting woke ideology superseded making money.
“Further, consumers’ perceptions of our position on matters of public interest, including our efforts to achieve certain of our environmental and social goals, often differ widely and present risks to our reputation and brands,” Disney’s filing continued.
Disney destroyed the “Indiana Jones,” “Star Wars” and Marvel franchises by trying to turn them into totems of identity politics.
“South Park” even lampooned this trend of how every “Star Wars” project now features nothing but female, minority, or homosexual leads.
And Disney is letting investors know that it’s full speed ahead on woke film-making no matter how much the financial losses pile up.
