When Mike Pence served as Donald Trump’s vice president, Rachel Maddow had no use for him.
That all changed.
And now Rachel Maddow endorsed Mike Pence for one strange reason.
Mike Pence and his wife Karen became resistance heroes when Karen Pence refused to shake hands or say hello to Donald and Melania Trump at Jimmy Carter’s funeral.
When you go to a wedding, and you run into someone you don’t like, you politely say hello, and move on. Because you’re an adult.

Most Americans thought Karen Pence came off as petty for snubbing the president-elect and incoming first lady.
Rachel Maddow was not among them.
Maddow told Bravo’s Andy Cohen that she was now a fan of how strong Mike and Karen Pence’s marriage was after this display.
“You know, I just, categorically, as a person, I resist like, ‘Watch their body language.’ It’s just not who I am. I read 19th-century Senate history. I’m really a big dork. That said —” Maddow stated.
Maddow said Karen Pence must have felt immense pressure to act cordially towards Trump and Melania after Mike Pence shook Trump’s hand and said hello.
“You can imagine how wobbly you’d feel doing that, you know, just as a regular human being especially when you’re doing it because of your love for your husband and your husband stands up,” Maddow continued.
But Karen Pence is consumed with her disdain for Donald Trump after Trump broke with Pence over the 2020 election, effectively ending Pence’s career in electoral politics.
Trump proved he was able to rise above that dispute by trying to break the ice with Pence even after Pence refused to endorse him in the 2024 campaign and smeared Trump as unfit for office.
Maddow gushed over the “marriage goals” of the Pences.
“I just felt like Mrs. Pence, you know what? I bet that was really hard to do and that was a really human thing and I’m sorry. I’ve had my differences with the Pence family and their professed piety, but that was a marriage goals moment,” Maddow concluded.
Democrats didn’t think Mike and Karen Pence’s marriage was something to celebrate.
In 2019 when Mike Pence said he never ate alone with a woman who wasn’t his wife, then-California Senator Kamala Harris mocked Pence’s marriage as something out of “Leave It to Beaver.”
“I disagree with him when he suggests it’s not possible to have meetings with women alone by himself. I think that’s ridiculous — the idea that you would deny a professional woman the opportunity to have a meeting with the vice president of the United States is outrageous,” Harris declared.
But that was then.
This is now.
And in 2025, Mike Pence is a hero to the left because Democrats are forever stuck obsessing over the 2020 election and January 6.
