Megyn Kelly has seen it all during her career in the media.
So nothing should come as a surprise.
But Megyn Kelly just learned this painful lesson.
Megyn Kelly watched history repeat itself before her very eyes when liberals inside of NBC and MSNBC lost their minds over NBC hiring former Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel as a paid contributor.
Just like when NBC hired Kelly in 2017, forces inside the network rebelled over the idea of giving a platform to a Republican who wouldn’t be another Liz Cheney and mindlessly denounce Donald Trump and his supporters as criminal fascists out to end democracy.
McDaniel couldn’t appease her critics on the left during her debut appearance on “Meet the Press” where she renounced Donald Trump and said he only defended his claims after the 2020 election because she was the head of the RNC and claimed she had to “take one for the team.”
Former “Meet the Press” host Chuck Todd – who got the boot in 2023 for low ratings caused by Todd chasing off Republican viewers with obnoxious liberal bias – appeared on the program following McDaniel’s interview with host Kristen Welker and roasted his own network for putting McDaniel on the air.
“She is now a paid contributor by NBC News,” Todd ranted. “I have no idea whether any answer she gave to you was because she didn’t want to mess up her contract. She wants us to believe that she was speaking for the RNC when the RNC was paying for it. So she has, she has credibility issues that she still has to deal with. Is she speaking for herself or is she speaking on behalf of who’s paying her? Once at the RNC, she did say that. Hey, I’m speaking for the party. I get that that’s part of the job. So, what about here?”
“When NBC made the decision to give her NBC News’ credibility, you got to ask yourself, what does she bring NBC News?” Todd added. “And when we make deals like this, and I’ve been at this company a long time, you’re doing it for access. Access to audience. Sometimes it’s access to an individual. And we can have a journalistic ethics debate about that. And I’m willing to have that debate. And if you told me we were hiring her as a technical adviser to the Republican convention, I think that would be certainly defensible. If you told me we’re, we’re talking to her, but let’s see how she does in some interviews and maybe vet her with actual journalists inside the network to see if it’s a two-way, what she can bring the network.”
Todd then claimed it was no longer possible to determine whose views McDaniel represented.
“So I do think, unfortunately, this interview was always going to be looked through the prism of who is she speaking for? I think you did everything you could do. You got put into an impossible situation booking this interview, and then all of a sudden, the rug pulled out from under you. You find out she’s being paid to show up,” Todd concluded.
When NBC hired Kelly in 2017, gave her a prime-time newsmagazine program and put her on the “Today” show, NBC executives hoped Kelly would appeal to center-right viewers. But NBC hired Kelly because she feuded with Donald Trump in the 2016 election so conservatives didn’t trust her.
Liberals just saw Kelly as a former Fox News host who burst their bubble by telling them Santa Claus is white.
It took about a year for the liberals inside NBC to create enough fake woke outrage to get Kelly fired.
McDaniel is in the same boat.
She is the establishment so the MAGA base doesn’t trust her and leftists like Todd think the only Republicans allowed on the air should be Lincoln Project-style Never-Trumpers who will agree with Democrats on every issue.
