Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg opened the flood gates of politically motivated indictments against Donald Trump.
But now Bragg learned some bad news.
A judge slammed Alvin Bragg with this brutal reality check about his case against Trump.
In April, Alvin Bragg indicted Donald Trump on the flimsy legal theory that Trump falsified business records to cover up a federal campaign finance violation.
This stemmed from how the Trump Organization reported payments to Michael Cohen as reimbursement for paying Stormy Daniels $130,000 as part of a non-disclosure agreement settlement in October 2016.
Even though Bragg has no jurisdiction over federal election law and the Biden administration never charged Trump with campaign finance crimes – even as Jack Smith bent and twisted the law to indict Trump on several other novel legal theories – Bragg proceeded anyway.
After Bragg indicted Trump his fellow Democrat prosecutors Fani Willis and Jack Smith also indicted Trump as part of what many Americans saw as an election interference scheme to assist Joe Biden’s re-election campaign.
Bragg’s case is considered the weakest of all four weak, politically motivated cases against Trump.
But since Bragg indicted Trump first he got the first chance to schedule a trial date.
Judge Juan Merchan – who donated to Joe Biden’s 2020 campaign – initially set the trial date for March 25, 2024.
However, Obama Judge Tanya Chutkan worked with Smith on putting the case regarding Trump contesting the 2020 election on a “rocket docket” and scheduled the trial for March 4, 2024.
Democrats want Trump to stand trial on that date because it is one day before the key Super Tuesday primaries.
That led to Judge Merchan writing to Trump’s lawyers canceling a pre-trial hearing in a strong hint that he would postpone the March 25 trial date.
“In light of the many recent developments involving Mr. Trump and his rapidly evolving trial schedule, I do not believe it would be fruitful for us to conference this case on September 15 to discuss scheduling,” Merchan wrote to Trump’s lawyers.
“We will have a much better sense at that time whether there are any actual conflicts and if so, what the best adjourn date might be for trial,” Merchan added.
Some Democrat prosecutor had to be the first one to indict Trump and some Democrat had to be the first to take Trump to trial.
But Bragg going first meant the weakest case – and the one most likely to get thrown out – going first, which worried Democrats.
If Trump got a win right off the bat in the Bragg case then it would feed the perception that Biden weaponized the justice system to go after Trump as his central re-election campaign.
The 2020 election case will be held in D.C. with an Obama donor and the biggest Trump hater on the bench with a jury Smith will stack with Democrat partisans.
Smith’s setting up a sham trial with the verdict already decided so Democrats can try and convict Trump in the middle of the 2024 primary.
