Democrats opposed to DOGE received a rude awakening when White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt shared on social media a video from when Barack Obama was president where Obama delivered the exact same mission statement as DOGE.
“To all of the Democrats who are planning to protest this week, here’s an explanation on DOGE, from your party’s own beloved leaders!” Leavitt wrote on X.

At the time, Obama claimed addressing America’s $12 trillion debt was a national “necessity.”
“Budget reform is not an option, it’s a necessity,” Obama stated.
Like Elon Musk, Obama claimed there were billions in waste, fraud and abuse that could be trimmed from the federal budget.
“We can’t sustain a system that bleeds billions of taxpayer dollars on programs that have outlived their usefulness or exist solely because of the power of politicians, lobbyists or interest groups,” Obama added.
Obama then promised to conduct a DOGE-like audit of the federal budget to identify savings to put America on track to fiscal sanity.
“We are going to go through our federal budget as I promised during the campaign, page by page, line by line eliminating those programs we don’t need and insisting that those that we do need operate in a sensible, cost-effective way,” Obama continued.
Of course, that was all a lie.
Obama rammed through the nearly $1 trillion so-called “stimulus” bill and flushed trillions more down the drain on his socialist agenda, of which Obamacare served as the crown jewel.
The national debt swelled to over $20 trillion by the time Obama left office.
Elon Musk and DOGE intend to succeed where Obama and past presidents failed.
DOGE’s website stated it already identified $55 billion in savings by shuttering deep-state agencies like USAID and canceling taxpayer subsidies to fake news media outlets like POLITICO.
