Kamala Harris had another head-scratching moment.
It was a complete unforced error.
And Kamala Harris will have your blood boiling with this awful lie.
Vice President Kamala Harris pushed the false claim that gun violence is the number one killer of children the day after the Kansas City Chiefs’ parade shooting.
“Gun violence is the number one cause of death for children of America—not some form of illness or car accidents,” Harris said on X.
President Biden also claimed in 2022 that more kids are killed via firearms than motor vehicles.
“Guns are the number one killer of children,” Biden said in June of 2022.
But the data shows Biden and Harris’s claims are simply not true.
Firstly, the majority of deaths among children in America happen within the child’s first year.
And in order to claim guns as the number one killer, infant deaths would have to be excluded and 18 and 19-year-olds would have to be counted as children.
Among children aged 1-17, unintentional injury is the leading cause of death with car accidents causing the majority of fatalities. Even still, motor deaths have been steadily decreasing.
According to Fox News “Motor vehicle crashes amounted to 10 deaths per 100,000 children and adolescents in 1999, a figure nearly twice as high as gun deaths in 2020.”
By 2020, motor accidents caused just over 5 deaths per 100,000 children and adolescents.
Despite the data, Harris stated the day after the Kansas City shooting that she was “call[ing] on Congress and state legislators to have the courage to act by passing common sense gun safety legislation.”
And more gun control has only resulted in more Americans purchasing guns.
“In the last ten years, we’ve grown [10 points] in gun ownership. That’s a very stunning number,” remarked Micah Roberts from a Republican polling firm Public Opinion Strategies.
Roberts co-conducted a poll with members of Democrat polling firm Hart Research and found that, “By and large, things don’t change that dramatically that quickly when it comes to something as fundamental as whether you own a gun.”
Back in November, attorney Jonathan Turley highlighted the contrast between the Biden administration’s gun control policies and everyday Americans.
“The Harvard poll shows that six in ten voters believe owning a gun is to protect themselves. Despite the strong anti-gun rights message from the White House and the media, the public seems to be moving significantly in the opposite direction,” Turley posted on X.
“The United States (by household) is now a majority gun-owning nation according to these polls. That could present an interesting dynamic going into the election in 2024.”
“While many rights are viewed as fairly abstract, gun ownership can give voters a tangible investment worth hundreds or thousands of dollars. Many have more than one gun. That gives them a real interest in a debate over limiting gun rights or banning weapons,” the attorney added.
