Fans wish the NFL would just stick to football.
But the league just can’t get out of its own way.
And now the NFL went woke by doing an insane favor for a Trump-hating star.
Pop megastar Taylor Swift dating Kansas City Chiefs’ star tight end Travis Kelce is turning into the biggest story of the NFL season.
Swift – who is on a break from her record-setting Eras World Tour where she’s sold over $1 billion worth of tickets – attended the Chiefs’ last two games against the Chicago Bears and the New York Jets.
Both games received massive ratings boosts thanks to Swift’s fans – known as “Swifties” – tuning in.
During the Chiefs game against the Jets, the NBC telecast drew a boffo 27 million viewers – a massive increase over NBC’s Week Four telecast last season which drew an audience of 22 million – as the cameras constantly showed Swift and her A-list friends, “Deadpool 3” stars Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, watching the game.
Nielsen data showed a 53% increase in young girls ages 12-17 – Swift’s target fanbase – tuning in to the game.
Now the NFL is paying Swift back.
The New York Post’s Andrew Marchand reported that the NFL sent a memo to their TV broadcast partners – CBS, FOX, NBC, ESPN and Amazon – asking them to air free commercials for the theatrical release of Swift’s movie about the Eras Tour.
“In the NFL’s undying quest for Taylor Swift’s heart, it asked its networks — NBC, ESPN, Fox and CBS — to show promos for her upcoming movie for free, The Post has learned,” Marchand wrote.
“ESPN and NBC acquiesced to the request and showed promos for Swift’s movie during the content portion of their pregame shows this past Sunday and Monday,” Marchand’s report continued.
By promoting Swift and Kelce’s relationship the NFL is once again walking into a political minefield.
Swift and Kelce are a match made in woke heaven.
In 2020, Swift endorsed Joe Biden and smeared Trump with the usual liberal lies about Trump being a racist.
“After stoking the fires of white supremacy and racism your entire presidency, you have the nerve to feign moral superiority before threatening violence? ‘When the looting starts the shooting starts’??? We will vote you out in November,” Swift posted on social media.
For his part, Kelce gladly kneeled for the national anthem to show solidarity with anti-American former quarterback Colin Kaepernick.
Kelce also appeared in commercials promoting Pfizer’s COVID vaccine and Bud Light.
Polls showed the NFL experienced a dip in public favorability ratings when players began kneeling for the anthem and disrespecting the military.
Will Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce drag the league back into that briar patch?
