Hunter Biden found himself backed into a corner.
Biden knew there was no way out.
Hunter Biden waved the white flag of surrender with this stunning announcement.
This past December Hunter Biden defied a subpoena from the House Oversight Committee to testify in a closed-door deposition about Joe Biden’s involvement in his business deals.
Hunter Biden chose instead to stage a press conference that created multiple legal headaches.
In his remarks, Hunter Biden admitted Joe Biden had some involvement in his business ventures only saying Joe Biden wasn’t financially involved.
That opened the door to questions about if Joe Biden knew he was the lure of an alleged influence peddling scheme and willingly participated.
To make matters worse, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre revealed Joe Biden knew that Hunter Biden planned to ignore the subpoena which created a new path for Republicans to file an article of impeachment against Joe Biden for obstructing justice.
Republicans on the House Oversight Committee advanced a resolution recommending criminal prosecution for Hunter Biden on charges of contempt of Congress.
That led to Republicans threatening to impeach Attorney General Merrick Garland in addition to Joe Biden if the Justice Department didn’t indict Hunter Biden just like the Biden Justice Department indicted Trump advisers Steve Bannon and Peter Navarro on contempt of Congress charges after they skipped out on a subpoena to testify before the January 6 committee.
Hunter Biden knew continued defiance would lead to more criminal charges for himself or articles of impeachment against his father and his advisers.
Sensing the walls were closing in Hunter Biden tapped out.
Hunter Biden’s attorney Abbe Lowell surrendered to Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer and Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan stating that Hunter Biden would appear for a closed-door deposition or public hearing if the committee issued a new subpoena.
“Consequently, the November 8 and 9, 2023, deposition subpoenas to Mr. Biden and the contempt resolutions approved by your committees on January 10, 2024, based on those subpoenas were and are legally invalid. You have not explained why you are not interested in transparency and having the American people witness the full and complete testimony of Mr. Biden at a public hearing,” Lowell wrote.
“If you issue a new proper subpoena, now that there is a duly authorized impeachment inquiry, Mr. Biden will comply for a hearing or deposition. We will accept such a subpoena on Mr. Biden’s behalf,” Lowell added.
Comer and Jordan responded by telling Lowell they will continue on the path of a criminal referral for contempt of Congress until Hunter Biden agrees to a new date to testify.
“For now, the House of Representatives will move forward with holding Hunter Biden in contempt of Congress until such time that Hunter Biden confirms a date to appear for a private deposition in accordance with his legal obligation,” Comer and Jordan wrote.
“While we will work to schedule a deposition date, we will not tolerate any additional stunts or delay from Hunter Biden. The American people will not tolerate, and the House will not provide, special treatment for the Biden family,” Comer and Jordan added.
